Modern Romance | Anna & Craig

As a newspaper photographer for 9 years I was lucky enough to meet a lot of people.

Craig was one of these.

He is a very talented motorbike rider and let’s just say having his photo taken was not one of his favourite things.

So when it came to his wedding, his gorgeous fiancé Anna, called me.

They met overseas on the race circuit and have spent most of their life together travelling the world. While they loved every minute of that life, they are now very happy and settled in Australia although Anna admits to missing her family.

Lucky they adore each other. A lot.

While photos of them were important, right from the start they were adamant that photos of their family were precedence. Anna is from the UK and hadn’t seen her Mum & Dad for two years prior to their wedding. They arrived a few weeks before the big day and spent some time sightseeing around Australia with Craig & Anna.

On the morning of the wedding, there was a calm buzz.

Slowly, Anna’s family arrived to see her and it was so lovely seeing them together and how close they are.

Anna and her Mum especially.

After the ceremony, we spent a bit of time on photos then joined the guests again for canapés and drinks. Just as they wanted, they got time to talk to all their family and friends which I loved photographing.

Anna & Craig, I am so glad you called me. I look forward to seeing you soon to catch up on the rest of the night and your honeymoon.

You were both the perfect models!

Bluebirds | Nerida & Phil

Every wedding is different.

There’s always at least one thing I really remember about each and every wedding I photograph.

For Nerida & Phil’s it has to be the birds.

Nerida first called me three weeks before their day so we didn’t have the chance to meet face to face. It just added to the anticipation.

When she came around the corner of her accommodation I immediately fell in love with her hair. I know it sounds weird but I had a serious case of hair envy. You see, all I’ve ever wanted is a thick head of hair and she had it styled in the most gorgeous 1940’s victory rolls. With a ceramic bluebird, right on top.

Then came the dress. Firstly it was short. Which I love and more importantly, it had bluebirds too. Even her flowers had a bird in a nest.

Their ceremony and reception were both held at Nerida & Phil’s home in Goornong (near Bendigo) on a Thursday. It was perfectly simple.

For photos we headed to the river near their house. We stepped into a large, open paddock and it couldn’t have been more wonderful.

Birds started circling. From everywhere.

Some might say they were a little angry with us for disturbing their nesting season. I like to think they came out just for the photos.

Nerida & Phil, I loved photographing your wedding. You made me feel so welcome and I hope your photos capture your day just as you remember it.
